Festival author wins Samuel Johnson Prize!

Kate Summerscale was last week named as the winner of the Samuel Johnson Prize Non-Fiction 2008.
The Samuel Johnson Prize for Non-Fiction is the UK's most prestigious non-fiction literary award. Now in its tenth year, the prize is open to books in the areas of current affairs, history, politics, science, sport, travel, biography, autobiography and the arts. Kate, who was a judge for the very first Samuel Johnson Prize in its inaugural year, won for her stunning book, The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, the true story of a gruesome murder in 1860 which directly inspired Wilkie Collins and Charles Dickens, and gave birth to the modern detective fiction genre.
Kate will be talking about her book, and signing copies, on Saturday, 27th September at Nineveh Gallery and Bookshop. Tickets will be on sale mid-August from Havant Arts Centre.
