Havant Arts Centre

Havant Literary Festival is celebrated in Havant Arts Centre's Sadler and Theatre Galleries with five exciting exhibitions and a wonderful showcase cabinet display:

Poetry Trail

Join the ranks of all those famous fictional detectives and hunt down all fifteen Poems written by local writers, secreted in the nooks and crannies of the Arts Centre.

Jules Simmons

Jules explores the relationships of artist performer and audience. Celebrating the thrill of live performance and the history of literature, she comments on how the purely fictional written word influences real events that shape our world.

Jane Kilford BA

Connections with people, places and objects. In contrast, disconnection, obscurity or misconception. Collected paper, word games, discarded haberdashery and ephemera are combined with dialogue, lyrics and literature to produce obscure instructions. Delicately disconcerting work.

Message in a Bottle - Kate Saunders BA

An installation updating Robin Crusoe's message in a bottle to a world of setting messages adrift on the virtual waves of the internet and mobile phone networks.

Stories Make Pictures

A body of work made in collaboration with children from Warren Park School and artist Jo Tester.

Showcase Cabinets

A group influenced by text: Pete Levy's pots; Stephanie Renwick and her beautiful silver jewellery inscribed with text; Sharon Lock and her exquisite bespoke artists' books; Mike Elsom with his unusual books based on journeys; Jacky Dillon will be showing her self-published books; Kate O'Connell will be displaying her large glass structures influenced by text.

Stories and Images - Martin Barnes
Sponsored by Rob Paul Studios, East Street, Havant

Throughout Festival, Nineveh Gallery and Bookshop Martin's work draws on fantasy and stories from long, long ago. There will be a Private View - free entry all welcome - between 6 and 9 on Friday 26 September. This is a chance to meet Martin and find out the ideas behind his work. The exhibition will be complemented by an accompanying storytelling event on Sunday, 28 September between 1.00 and 2.00pm
